Blenheim House #2

“If there isn’t a Revolution every 20 years…”

Responding to the historical context pf the exhibition context, Blenheim House was first inhabited in 1848. In this year, a series of revolutions swept Europe leaving almost no nation un-affected. The revolutions of 1848 impacted the contemporary Australian imaginary as well. Given the geographic distance between Europe and Australia, Australian newspapers at the time were often late in receiving news and thus interpreted such dramatic events in quite unusual, sometimes paranoid, ways. These imaginary book titles speak to those projected musings. Today too we live in an era of growing global inequality where the possibility of various revolutions, rather then merely ‘romantic’, seems ever more likely.
