Caspar David Friedrich’s iconic ‘Wanderer Above the Sea of Fog’ (1818) sans wanderer. What is such an iconic image without its protaganist? What is seen/experienced once they who have been depicted seeing/experiencing have been removed? What is ‘experience’ in the absence of a human subject? Whatever the case, the image remains instantly recogniseable regardless of the loss of this subject.
